Cervical and Lumbar Traction in Westminster

When your neck or lower back is bothering you, everyday movements start to feel like a chore. Turning your head. Sitting at your desk. Bending down to pick something up. Any of these may suddenly become harder than they should be.

At Puritz Chiropractic Center, Westminster Chiropractor Dr. Allan Puritz may include cervical or lumbar traction in your care when gentle spinal decompression makes sense for your needs.

How This Therapy Works

This approach uses a controlled stretching force to gently lengthen the spine. Cervical traction targets the neck, while lumbar traction focuses on the lower back.

The goal is to temporarily reduce pressure on certain joints, discs, and surrounding tissues. For some patients, that can make movement feel easier and help irritated or tense areas settle down.

What Happens During a Session

You’ll get positioned comfortably while a specialized device applies a gradual, controlled pull to the area being addressed. The amount of force is adjusted to your body and comfort level.

Sessions typically run 10 to 20 minutes. Some people feel a gentle stretch. Others simply notice their muscles beginning to relax.

Dr. Puritz may consider this form of spinal decompression for neck stiffness, low back tension, disc-related discomfort, sciatica, cervical radiculopathy, or muscle tightness that lingers. Whether it belongs in your care plan comes down to what he finds during your exam and how your symptoms are showing up.

How It Fits Into Your Care

This therapy rarely stands alone. When appropriate, Dr. Puritz may pair it with chiropractic adjustments or other therapies as part of a broader care plan.

Frequency can change too. Some patients may need more sessions early on, then less often as things improve. How your body responds helps guide those decisions.
